No surprises. Travel fees are always disclosed and agreed upon before your appointment.
What’s included: notarization, obtaining all signatures required and proper identification, acquiring any additional information from the borrower as required by lender/escrow, pick-up and delivery, and completion in a timely manner at a convenient location for the borrowers and/or escrow, title, or lender.
Cancellation & no-show policy: The fee is still due and payable if the signing does not occur for any reason when the notary arrives, or if the appointment is cancelled one hour or less prior to the scheduled time. If the borrower does not show or refuses to sign documents, the fee due will be a minimum of one-half of the signing fee, OR printing charges plus a $40 travel fee ($1.00 per mile for travel beyond 40 miles round-trip) plus any wait-time fee — whichever is greater. This ensures all documents are properly prepared and borrowers are well informed prior to the Notary Signing Agent’s arrival to conduct the signing.
California notaries may charge up to $15 per signature for acknowledgments and jurats. Travel, convenience, and signing-service fees are separate from the notarial act and are disclosed in advance, as permitted by law.
Every signer must present valid, current photo identification. By California law a notary cannot use an interpreter and cannot rely on personal knowledge — so please have acceptable ID ready for your appointment.
No acceptable ID? A signing may still be possible using the Oath of a Credible Witness procedure — just ask and I’ll explain how it works.
ID requirements follow the California Secretary of State Notary Public Handbook (Gov. Code §8206). Read the official handbook at notary.cdn.sos.ca.gov.
